On Friday, March 24, a representative of the European Commission together with the external monitor assigned to LIFE Montserrat visited the project to assess the progress in the implementation of the actions and clarify several technical and financial aspects.
The visit was divided in two parts. In the morning they met the technical team and the administrative and financial managers of the project to follow up on the work and look over the most significant changes introduced from the initial planning. The main one refers to the kind of livestock selected to ensure the pasture of the strategic areas, which was first based exclusively on cows and it has evolved to a combination of cows, goats and donkeys as a way to adapt to the physical conditions of the territory and the viability of livestock projects.
In the afternoon, a field trip was planned to visit different sites where conservation actions have been carried out. Although the weather did not help at all, some areas of interest could be visited, and the representative of the Commission ended up with an accurate idea of the territory in which the project is being developed.
