Networking with the FIRELIFE project

21 September 2018

The FIRELIFE project (LIFE13 INF/HU/000827) is focused on the prevention of forest fires in Hungary. The technical team of this project contacted LIFE Montserrat with the aim to come and visit the actions that are being carried out in the Montserrat area with the twin objectives of reducing the risk of fire and favouring biodiversity.

Thus, on Thursday, September 13, two FIRELIFE technicians visited El Mimó and the Puigventós area, one of the strategic areas for fire prevention in which LIFE Montserrat works actively.

After a fruitful meeting between the technical teams of both projects, the Hungarian delegation could see on the ground examples of forestry work and prescribed burns executed by LIFE Montserrat to increase open areas and reduce fuel load accumulation in the forest. The visit also allowed to see how the local herd of goats grazes the area, meet the shepherd in charge of the livestock and see the infrastructures promoted by LIFE Montserrat to launch this livestock holding.

All in all, a very positive day for the exchange of experiences and knowledge between two projects with different approaches but common objectives.
