LIFE Technical Monitor visits the project

10 December 2015

All LIFE projects have a technical monitor appointed to assist the European Commission in monitoring the advance of the project and verifying its compliance to the LIFE Programme requirements.

On 3 and 4 December, LIFE Montserrat Technical Monitor visited the project team to know about the evolution of the actions and to evaluate administrative and financial project management.

During the first day she joined a field trip conducted by the LIFE Montserrat technical staff to several sites in which project actions have been carried out. The trip started in the north-western part of the project area that had been affected by last summer’s wildfire and where most of the 2014 and 2015 forest management works had been performed. In that same area the technical Monitor had also the chance to assess actions concerning grazing infrastructure as they are currently underway in order to allow the expansion of the grazing areas in 2016.
The second part of the visit was located in El Mimó, a property owned by the Town Council of Vacarisses where the project intends to build new barns to hold livestock farming activity. Flocks from El Mimó will then be able to operate in the whole area of Puigventós, which has been identified as one of the main strategic areas in terms of forest fire prevention in the southern part of the project area. In the parking lot entering El Mimó there is a LIFE Montserrat notice board showing full information about the project. The panel was observed and validated by the Technical Monitor since it is a required communication instrument among actions concerning public awareness.

On December 4 the activity was focused on administrative and financial management. The Technical Monitor met the administrative managers representing all project partners in order to ensure that administrative requirements are attended and properly implemented.
