Olesa de Montserrat Town Council and LIFE Montserrat technical staff have organized an information session on the project actions that should be developed during the next months in Olesa and its surroundings. Most of these actions will be carried out in Puigventós area, a very popular location for local visitors that has been identified as strategic to prevent major forest fires. Project actions in this area will include the use of prescribed fire to reduce fuel load (and thus protect forest and human communities from extreme fires) and to improve habitat conditions for species of high conservation interest. Further on, livestock activity in the area is also planned in order to maintain and strengthen the open areas created through prescribed burnings.
The briefing took place on November 24 in the Fundació Agrícola Olesana headquarters. LIFE Montserrat technicians explained the envisaged actions as well as the reasons to undertake them and the expected results. The attending audience had then the opportunity to expose doubts and opinions so all points of view could be presented, heard and debated. The main objective of the session was to keep people informed and to bring the project closer to them, and it was fully accomplished.
